In early 2021, due to low-stock issues and the statements in this Reddit post, rumors began swirling that Logitech is discontinuing the entire Harmony remote lineup. The company has not officially confirmed or denied the rumor (and has not responded to our inquiries), but it seems increasingly likely to be true, based on reported emails sent to Harmony distributors. Since all of our current picks are Harmony remotes, we will now return to the drawing board and start fresh, testing new products and reevaluating previous competitors. In the meantime, you may still be able to find Harmony remotes through retailers, but we’d put them in the “buyer beware” category, since we have no official statement on how Logitech will support the products and programming software. We will continue to update this article as we learn more.
If your home entertainment system is more complex than the typical media player/TV/soundbar combo and you need a universal remote to control all your gear—including a few smart-home devices—we recommend the Logitech Harmony Companion. While no single DIY universal remote is perfect for everyone, the Companion combines a good physical design with the flexibility to control a variety of devices.
