When the Edison Electric Light Company debuted the first Christmas string light set in 1882, most Americans still didn’t even have electricity in their homes, but more than 140 years later, the Edison Electric Light Company—now better known as GE—still makes the best Christmas string lights around. That’s not just because of the company’s pedigree, or the purple bulbs (although those are a nice touch).
