Over-the-range (OTR) microwaves are not notably better than good countertop models. But one of these can save you some space, while doing double-duty as a basic range hood. The GE JVM6175 is a basic OTR microwave with better controls and an easier-to-use interface than most. We also found that it heats a bit more evenly than most other OTR models we tested.
