If you’re a side-sleeper, you need a cushy mattress to relieve pressure on your shoulders and hips. But it shouldn’t be too cushy, because the gravitational pull will strain your spine. For most people, that means choosing a mattress with a firmness level of medium-soft to medium. After hundreds of hours of testing, we recommend six mattresses for side-sleepers—including two foam models, three innersprings, and a hybrid. We’ve also included a few slightly firmer mattresses, for side-sleepers who frequently shift onto their back and stomach or those who simply prefer a more supportive feel. Look for additional details on these recommendations in our guide to foam and hybrid mattresses and our guide to innerspring mattresses.
