The iPhone 12 Won’t Come With a Charger or Headphones. Here’s What to Get If You Need Them.

After months of rumors, it’s official: Apple’s new iPhone 12 models won’t come with a charger or headphones in the box when they ship this fall, and the company has removed those accessories from older models. This is a good move for the environment since it should significantly reduce e-waste, and if you have an old USB charger, Lightning-connector EarPods, or any wireless headphones, they’ll continue to work with your new phone. But if you’re starting fresh or just want extras of either or both of these items, you might be disappointed.

Thankfully, you can find some great, affordable options that are even better than those Apple used to include with every new iPhone. Here’s what we recommend.

Anker PowerPort III Nano

Anker PowerPort III Nano

The best USB phone charger

This is the smallest charger that will fast-charge any 2020 iPhone.

Aukey Minima 18W PD Charger (PA-Y18)

Aukey Minima 18W PD Charger (PA-Y18)

The best USB phone charger

Aukey’s charger offers full-speed charging and folding prongs at an affordable price.

Every iPhone released since 2017 has supported fast charging, and that’s true for the 2020 lineup, as well. All you need is a charger with USB-C Power Delivery and a USB-C–to–Lightning cable (a suitable cable comes in the iPhone box, but we have some favorites if you need extras). We like Anker’s PowerPort III Nano and Aukey’s Minima 18W PD Charger (PA-Y18) because they’re both smaller and less expensive than the comparably powerful chargers Apple previously included with its iPhone Pro models, and they come from brands we trust. The Aukey is generally a few dollars cheaper, and we like its folding prongs, but the Anker is just a bit more compact overall.

If you want to charge more than one device at a time, we have more picks in our guide to USB phone chargers.

Jabra Elite 75t

Jabra Elite 75t

The best Bluetooth earbuds

These true wireless earbuds are comfortable, sound great, and come equipped with all the controls and features you need.

Beats Powerbeats Pro

Beats Powerbeats Pro

The best wireless earbuds for people who exclusively use Apple products

Equipped with proprietary Apple tech, these earbuds connect just as seamlessly as AirPods but surpass them with water resistance, volume and track controls, and improved fit.

1More Piston Fit BT

1More Piston Fit BT

The best Bluetooth earbuds under $40

The Piston Fit BT behind-the-neck wireless earbuds are water resistant and comfortable to wear—and they sound more expensive than they are.

$30 $40 from AliExpress

You save $10 (33%)

Whatever your budget, you can get great wireless earbuds that will outshine the wired freebies that Apple formerly provided. Our all-around favorites are the Jabra Elite 75t earbuds, which offer a comfortable fit, full track and volume controls, water resistance, seven and a half hours of battery life per charge, and clear microphones for phone calls and video chats. Apple fans looking to get the most out of the iOS features available only via Apple’s proprietary H1 wireless chip should look to the Beats Powerbeats Pro set. With a more secure fit, easier-to-use controls, and a nine-hour listening time, they provide a better experience than the AirPods Pro pair. If you’re on a budget, the 1More Piston Fit BT earbuds are lightweight, have an eight-hour battery life per charge, and sound way better than $30 earbuds have any business sounding, though their behind-the-neck cable design isn’t as minimal as the Jabra Elite and Beats Powerbeats true wireless style.

Of course, there are even more options, designed for every kind of lifestyle.
